United Airlines is offering passengers the chance to win one million frequent-flyer miles.

As part of a new promotion, the airline will award one million air miles to the 50 teams of passengers who accrue the most Elite Qualifying Miles in 2008.

The Elite Team Contest invites members of the Premier Mileage Plus loyalty program to partner with friends and relatives to pool their collective miles. By beating their scores from last year, the teams of four could be in with a chance of winning one million air miles to split between themselves. The 50 sets of miles will go to the 50 top-scoring teams.

Robert Sahadevan, Vice-President of Mileage Plus, said: “We are always looking to give our members diverse ways to accrue and redeem Mileage Plus miles, and this unique competition will be fun and rewarding for our most loyal customers.

“Whether they flew a hundred or a hundred thousand miles last year, our premier members will have a chance to compete for the biggest reward we will give this year.”
