Air Traffic Controllers Poised to Strike in France
Head’s up if you’re flying to France late today or tomorrow, Jan. 29: French air traffic controllers are set to stage a strike on Jan. 29, in what’s called “a national day of civil action.” The upshot: the Direction Générale de l’ Aviation Civile, the DGAC, is limiting the number of flights each airline can field.
The country’s largest carrier, Air France, contends it will operate 100 percent of its long-haul flights. That includes transatlantic flights to the United States and Canada. For travelers on Paris flights to nearby cities, Air France flights might be affected.
Air France says it’s suspending 10 percent of its Charles De Gaulle flights and 30 percent from Orly.
Travelers on Air France flights can check the Air France Web site for updates on their Paris flights. Air France says its personnel “will do their utmost to inform passengers.”
Air France may be offering alternative routings via Amsterdam (AMS), or on another one of its SkyTeam partners for flyers whose trips are disrupted.
