Delta announces new flights to ancient city
Delta Airlines has announced it is offering a new direct route from Atlanta to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Santo Domingo, the country's capital, is considered the oldest city in the New World. As it becomes more accessible, its numerous attractions from its architecture, museums, and nightlife are making it one of the hottest tourist destinations in the Caribbean.
The new route will commence on December 1, 2005, and will be the only available direct flight from Atlanta.
The announcement means that Delta now serves four markets for the Dominican Republic. Currently the airline offers flights from New York to Santiago and Santo Domingo along with flights from Atlanta to Punta Cana.
James Sarvis, director of Delta's Latin America and Caribbean region, said: "With all of our new and existing service, customers from around the world can make Atlanta their gateway to the Caribbean as well as Latin America."
Atlanta is Delta's biggest hub, and is the busiest airport in the world.
Since the Fall of 2004, Delta has added nine new routes to its Caribbean network, putting the airline's total of markets served from the United States at 28.
