JetBlue boosts flights for Florida
Discount carrier JetBlue Airways has announced it is launching three new daily non-stop flights between New York's LaGuardia Airport and Palm Beach International Airport.
The news comes after Delta, one of JetBlue's biggest rivals for the Floridian market, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Delta's discount airline subsidiary Song currently serves this route with three flights each day.
JetBlue officials said the addition was a mere coincidence, but airline industry expert Anthony Sabino said: "JetBlue senses weakness and is striking as quickly as they can. They also know the New York to Palm Beach route is the crown jewel for any airline."
JetBlue's new route will start on November 17, and it will make JetBlue the largest carrier for flights between New York and South Florida.
By Thanksgiving, JetBlue will have 80 daily flights between New York's LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark airports, and Florida's West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Fort Myers, and Orlando.
The discount airline’s next target could be Continental airlines, as JetBlue has mentioned it will be adding routes from Continental's hub in Newark to Florida and Puerto Rico.
This could trigger an intense airfare war that will benefit the traveler looking for a cheap flight to warmer climates.
