JetBlue to resume New Orleans flights
Discount airline JetBlue has announced that it will resume passenger flights to New Orleans' Louis Armstrong International Airport on October 1.
The New Orleans airport only recently reopened for passenger flights. In the days after Hurricane Katrina it was used solely for evacuation and transportation for emergency workers.
During the evacuation JetBlue ran seven evacuation flights, and this week will run two roundtrip flights between its hub in New York and New Orleans.
So far the airline expects the first passengers for the resumed flights to be from banks, insurance companies, and aid workers.
JetBlue's gate and ticket counter were severely damaged by the hurricane, but spokeswoman Jenny Dervin said the airline would make repairs and temporarily borrow gates from other airlines.
