Northwest to drop flights from hub
Northwest Airlines has announced it will be reducing service to and from its hub in Minneapolis-St Paul.
An astounding 38 flights will be cut from the city's schedule. While the Eagan-based airline will still offer 471 daily flights after the cuts, it is a significant cut nonetheless.
Some of the direct flights that will be cut are for major cities such as St Louis, Miami, and Memphis. Northwest will still fly to these destinations, but some may require a connection, most likely in Detroit.
The majority of the cuts were for regional, smaller-market destinations that were flown by Northwest's subsidiary airlines, Mesaba or Pinnacle.
Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch tried to reassure travelers, telling the Duluth News Tribune: "Many markets we serve will see no change in the number of flights offered with this schedule."
He added: "Our November schedule provides the markets we serve with broad time-of-day coverage, while judiciously and responsibly reducing capacity."
