US Airways returns to Pittsburgh

A year after suspending service between State College and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US Airways has announced that the flight will be put back onto the schedule starting today.

The route is scheduled to have one flight going both ways each day. The flight from Pittsburgh will leave at 1.20 pm and arrive at 2.15 pm. From College Station, the flight will leave at 2.35 pm and arrive at 3.35 pm.

Dave Neufer, manager of US Airways, said the return of the route was due to high demand. College Station is home to Penn State University, and thousands of students need air travel to get home for the holidays.

Since US Airways demoted Pittsburgh from a hub city to a 'focus city', its US Airways flights have been cut in half.

Airfares will be expensive, but flights using Pittsburgh as a connection point will be more reasonable.

The State College-Pittsburgh route will cost $461 round trip, but a return flight from State College to Los Angeles can be found for $439, depending on how far in advance tickets are purchased.
