Allegiant to fly to new regional destination
A new destination is set to be served by discount airline Allegiant from its hub in Las Vegas.
Allegiant will fly daily between Las Vegas and the Northwest-Louisiana city of Shreveport.
The airline would be the fifth to serve the regional airport, something Shreveport officials are happy about considering the current economic climate in the aviation industry.
Chairman of the Shreveport Airport Authority, Ted Roberts , said: "Recently the environment in the airline industry hasn't been good, especially since fuel prices have skyrocketed. Anytime you can accomplish something with a new airline, it's quite an
accomplishment."
Allegiant's one-way airfares between most of its destinations and Las Vegas are usually around $100, and in the past year it has doubled its number of flights.
The airline mentioned in a statement that it was attracted to Shreveport's growth and was considering another Louisiana route, possibly to Baton Rouge.
