"Dallas offers most fun in the US"
Probably still best known as the backdrop to the world's favourite 80s soap opera, Dallas has now been named as the Most Fun US City by Verizon Information Services.
The online local search and shopping site's travel guide ranked the top 25 cities based on yellow pages listings.
Christmas shopping can be dealt with quickly in the downtown malls, while less festive visitors can take a trip to Dealy Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum, which mark the assassination of one of America's most popular presidents.
The top 25 list was compiled from more than 1,000 locations and compared the number of leisure activities listed in the phone directory. After Dallas, Phoenix, Miami, Boston and Portland made up the top five cities.
The fun activities used to rate the cities include amusement and theme parks, tour guides, nightclubs, casinos, zoos, aquariums, museums, historical places, botanical gardens, observatories or planetariums, golf courses and miniature golf courses, swimming pools, movie theatres and performing arts halls.
Florida was the leading state on the list with five cities represented, including Miami in third place. Meanwhile Texas had three cities in the top-ten with Dallas in the top spot, Fort Worth-Arlington in ninth and San Antonio in tenth.
For a different kind of fun, Dallas also lures horseracing enthusiasts from all over the world for the annual Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships – one of the Globe's most celebrated horse races.
The richest horserace in the world takes place each autumn and is held at Lone Star Park, Dallas. The multimillion-pound extravaganza brings the world's best horses and jockeys together to compete in eight sensational races.
The Breeders' Cup has been firmly established as Thoroughbred racing's most prestigious event, and remains the definitive test of the champions.
