Delta unveils enormous Caribbean and Latin American expansion
Delta Airlines has revealed plans for many routes to the Caribbean and Latin America in what will be the largest month of expansion in the airline's history.
Currently Delta is operating under bankruptcy protection and has said that it would soon be adding many international routes and cutting domestic services.
Today its plans went into motion and by December 18, 2005 it will have seven new routes to the Caribbean and Latin America, just in time for the busy winter travel season when many head for warmer climates.
Most of the new flights serve Atlanta and go to Santo Domingo, Barbados, Managua, Puerto Vallarta, Antigua and Punta Cana.
Delta will also add a route from its other hub in Cincinnati to Los Cabos, Mexico.
The new routes will each come into play at different points along the next thirty days and will accompany a massive sale on most of Delta's existing destinations to the Caribbean and Latin America.
Commenting on the expansion, Delta's director for the region James Sarvis, said: "We've added 30 per cent more seats during the past year, making us the fastest-growing airline to Latin America and the Caribbean. With this new service, Atlanta will become the second largest south-eastern gateway to the region."
