Lie detectors at airport security?
A number of airports in Russia and Israel have begun testing a new security device aimed at preventing terrorism or illegal activities on airplanes.
The device is effectively a lie detector where the passenger goes through the X-ray screening and then has to answer a simple yes or no question that has something to do with whether they were planning on doing something illegal onboard.
Its makers say it is able to pick up even the slightest nervous twitch or vocal stammering. Those who fail the test can be taken aside for more questioning.
Amir Liberman, chief executive of Nemesysco, the firm that makes the product, said it was quick and easy to use and minimally invasive.
He said: "In our trial, 500 passengers went through the test, and then each was subjected to full traditional searches. The one person found to be planning something illegal was the one who failed our test."
