Ohio airport to clear space for deer
Ohio's Akron-Canton Airport has announced plans to clear space near its perimeter so that white-tailed deer can graze.
The airport is trying to prevent the deer from getting in the way of departing and arriving jets, which has been a growing problem recently.
As a result of a number of collisions the airport will clear 33 acres of forest that are just over 1,000 feet west of Akron-Canton. The estimated cost has come in at $2.5 million.
Airport director Fred Krum said federal funds would foot most of the bill and he does not anticipate that it will result in higher airfares.
The airport must apply for a clearing permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency before plans can move forward.
Akron-Canton is served by discount airlines AirTran and Frontier as well as Delta and United.

The airport doesn't sell it's trees for pulp, lumber, chips or fire wood? Here in Minnesota even junk aspen brings atleast $60 a cord. Hardwood or pine much better.

Please know that as a public entity this clearing project was bid with the knowledge that the contractors would be using any suitable timber for assorted uses and therefore the cost of clearing would be reduced accordingly.
