U.S. pre-screening plans to move forward
The U.S. government intends to move ahead with plans for certain passengers to skip extra security measures.
Under the program passengers can sign up for the service by paying a fee and submitting information that would be saved on a Registered Traveler card. It is mainly aimed at business travelers.
Over the past 12 months a test run of the program has taken place in five domestic airports with positive results.
Members of the program must still go through standard security checks, but they are not required to undergo secondary security measures such as a random pat down.
The program came in response to a plethora of complaints from passengers claiming that the new security measures had greatly increased the time it took to board a flight.
A number of airports are reportedly in support of the plan, but it is not yet known when the program would be offered to the public.
