More cheap parking spaces at Chicago Midway
Midway International Airport in Chicago (MDW) has just opened a new 6,300-space economy parking garage to accommodate travelers flocking to this once underused aerodrome.
“As the number of travelers at Midway has increased, so has the demand for value-oriented parking capacity,” says Patrick J. Harney, Acting Aviation Commissioner at the airport.
Midway is a prime hub for discount airline Southwest Airlines, while AirTran operates a significant number of flights from the airport. ATA Airlines, another cheap seat carrier, also fields service out of the airport - although less than it used to.
The addition of the new seven-level garage brings Midway Airport’s total parking capacity to almost 13,000 spaces. That’s an increase of more than 50 per cent.
Shuttle busses operate to and from the economy parking garage 24 hours per day. They go to the facility at the corner of 55th Street and Laramie Avenue via a roadway exclusively for shuttle busses.
The prime roadblock to making your flight isn’t traffic congestion, but MDW’s notoriously long security lines at peak times of day. This is one airport where it pays to show up early, and then grab a bite to eat at one of the several very good bars and restaurants that are airside (beyond security).
Rates at Midway’s economy lots and the new economy parking garage are $2 for the first hour, $5 for the first two hours, and $12 for 2 to 24 hours.

You can park within two miles with a free shuttle, outdoors in a fenced lot, for $9.75 a day if you book ahead of time online with Park Ride & Fly. What I like is you don't need to leave your keys. A couple of the other shuttle parking services want you to leave your keys, but I'd rather not!
