Southwest celebrates black history
Southwest Airlines and The Seattle Sonics have joined forces to celebrate Black History Month with the sixth annual Black History Heroes challenge.
Open to all students in grades 1-12 from Washington state, contestants are invited to submit a creative piece (essay, poem, picture, photograph, or piece of music) describing an outstanding individual in black history or an outstanding African-American in their life.
Entries will be judged on creativity, relevance to topic, and quality, and the best will be awarded with free airline tickets courtesy of Southwest.
The airline is looking for three grand prizewinners, from elementary, middle school, and high school. Each winner will receive two round-trip airline tickets to Los Angeles, hotel accommodation and free tickets to see The Sonics play the Lakers.
A number of free tickets to other games will also be awarded to runners up.
All entries must be received by Friday, February 17.
