Wireless check-in from Southwest

Southwest Airlines has introduced a new wireless information system that allows passengers to check departure times, keep up-to-date with cancellations and check-in from their mobile.

The new service can be accessed from any internet-ready cell phone that has a web browser and allows multi-tasking travelers to check-in for their flight wherever they may be.

Once they arrive at the airport, customers who have used the mobile service then have to find a Southwest rapid check-in kiosk to print their boarding pass before proceeding to the departure gate.

Travelers can also use the service to cancel boarding passes, and check flight information.

Southwest is already the country's largest low-cost airline, serving 62 cities across 32 states.

According to Kevin Krone, Southwest's vice president of marketing, the mobile service is the latest example of how the company is trying to win more customers by making the travel experience easier.
