A new way to get to Wilmington
Wilmington in Delaware is an interesting place. It’s a business town with major companies, but travelers have had to fly into Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to get there. Wilmington’s New Castle Airport (ILG) has lacked commercial air service, but that’s about to change.
Delta Connection plans to launch twice-daily nonstop service from New Castle Airport to its Delta Air Lines mega-hub at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) on June 29. Canadair Regional Jets will make the run.
Flight 4807 is scheduled to depart Atlanta at 1:20pm, and arrive at Wilmington at 3:20pm. The second daily flight - Flight 4808 - departs Atlanta at 6:40pm, and arrives at Wilmington at 8:41pm.
There is a pair of return trips. Flight 4806 leaves Wilmington at 6:40am, and arrives at Atlanta at 8:40am. Flight 4807 departs Wilmington at 3:50pm, and gets to Atlanta at 5:50pm.
To promote the new service, Delta Connection is offering introductory discount airfares. Between June 29 and August15 flights from Atlanta to Wilmington cost from $129 one-way, based on a round-trip purchase. The fare from Dallas/Fort Worth to Wilmington is $139, and San Diego to Wilmington sells for $149. There are some blackout dates, and tickets have to be purchased by April 11.
With the launch of Wilmington service, Delta Air Lines boats that it’s the only airline in this country to serve all 50 states. The last carrier able to make that claim was United Airlines.
