Delta’s gift to golfers

Southerners love to golf. To that end, Delta Connection is fielding seasonal service this year between its megahub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Pinehurst/Southern Pines, North Carolina (SOP). The latter is in perfect proximity to more than 40 golf resorts.

Flights will operate from June 22 through November 13. Delta Connection partner Atlantic Southeast Airlines will provide the lift with CRJ-200 regional jets. Six flights per week are scheduled.

There are 43 golf courses within a 15-mile radius of Pinehurst/Southern Pines. The beauty of the new service is that the place is suddenly far more accessible via Atlanta, the nation’s busiest commercial aerodrome. From Atlanta, Delta and its partners offer flights to more than 240 worldwide destinations.

To tee off the new route, Delta is offering special introductory fares. These discount airfares have to be purchased by April 11, and are good for travel between June 22 and August 8. The cheap seats are subject to some blackout dates, and predicated on a round-trip purchase.

One-way rates are as follows:

- from Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Detroit Metro (DTW), or Tampa International (TPA), the fare is $99.

- from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood a trip to the links will run $109.

- out of Atlanta itself, the Pinehurst tariff is $119.

- from Los Angeles International, the discount airfare is $139.
