Jazz opens up the gateway to the North

Few places in North America are as remote as Yellowknife (YZF), capital of Canada’s expansive Northwest Territories. Soon, there will be a new way to get there.

Air Canada Jazz plans to start daily nonstop service to Yellowknife from Edmonton (YEA) from July 3, and from Calgary (YYC) the next day. Both routes will be flown with CRJ-200 regional jets. The rapier-like 50-seat craft comprise the backbone of Air Canada Jazz’s fleet.

The new Edmonton to Yellowknife flight is a late evening affair. It departs Edmonton at 8:20pm, and arrives at Yellowknife at 10:05. The return flight is an afternoon departure, leaving Yellowknife at 3pm, and getting to Edmonton at 4:40pm. Passengers will be able to connect readily to Toronto (YYZ), Winnipeg (YWG), Saskatoon (YXE), Grand Prairie (YQU), Fort McMurray (YMM), Calgary, and Vancouver (YVR).

The new Calgary to Yellowknife CRJ departs at 12:15pm, and arrives at 2:25pm. The Yellowknife to Calgary flight departs at 9:05am, and arrives at 11:10am.

Together, Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz lay claim to operating more nonstop flights within Canada and to the United States than any other carrier. Within Canada this summer they will field more than 1,066 nonstops per day to and from 60 Canadian airports. Between Canada and the United States, they fly more than 416 nonstops per day on 76 routes to and from 48 U.S. and seven Canadian destinations.
