Memphis in motion

Legions of travelers pass through Memphis International Airport (MEM) every year, Northwest Airlines’ third-largest hub.

As airlines cut their in-flight food offerings, passengers increasingly look to those connecting times as an opportunity to chow down. As the result of a $25-million concession renovation, travelers can now choose to eat what the locals do.

This includes dining at such Memphis favorites as Interstate BBQ, Lenny’s, or Corky’s. Memphis Airport now also boasts an array of Memphis-themed restaurants such as Varsity Grill and Blue Note Café. For travelers in a hurry, there are Einstein Bagels and the ubiquitous Starbucks.

To help travelers get around the airport better, the Memphis-Shelby County Airport authority has made terminal elevators easier to find. Before, passengers had to play hide-and-seek with them.

Now, there’s a pair of new elevators at the center front entrance to Terminal B. They provide easy access between the lower parking garage level, baggage claim, and the ticket lobby.

To further ease passage around the airport, the old moving sidewalks beyond the security checkpoints in Terminals A and C have been replaced.
