More cheap seats from WestJet
Discount airline WestJet is adding a couple of seasonal routes this summer, and initiating a new run that could be permanent.
The Canadian cheap-seater plans to fly daily nonstop from Edmonton (YEA) to Halifax (YHZ) from June 24 through October 28.
Similarly, the airline is scheduled to make the Toronto Pearson International (YYZ) to Abbotsford (YXX) run a daily nonstop affair from June 13 through October 28.
Perhaps more permanently, WestJet is looking to field daily nonstop service from Vancouver (YVR) to Ottawa (YOW) starting on August 22.
The Canadian phenom is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The cheap-seat carrier has come a very long way. It first began flying on February 29, 1996, when three airplanes provided service to Vancouver, Kelowna (YLW), Calgary (YYC), Edmonton, and Winnipeg (YWG).
Today, WestJet flies a 33-city route network in North America, and was named Canada’s most respected corporation for customer service in 2005. With the addition of new summer routes, and the beefing up of existing runs, the carrier will offer some 2,122 weekly departures.
While WestJet may offer discount airfares, it still serves up some in-flight amenities. The majority of its fleet of Next-Generation Boeing 737s is fitted with live seatback television provided by Bell ExpressVu.
