New airline given funding boost
The newest low-cost airline is taxiing towards take-off after recent figures suggested that Skybus has raised $20 million more than it needs to begin its initial operations.
Describing itself as "America's ultra low-fare airline", Skybus is based in Ohio and has employed Charlie Clifton, formerly of Ryanair, the European low-cost airline, to help raise funds.
According to Ireland's The Sunday Business Post , Clifton has raised more than $100 million mainly from financial institutions.
If all goes to plan Skybus will begin operations later this year, operating nine planes on five to ten domestic routes, combining long and short-haul flights between secondary airports.
No details of what these routes will be are available, but the airline's imminent launch should come as good news to travelers who value cost above all other considerations. The airline will achieve its "ultra low-fare status" by selling drinks and snacks on board and operating a no-frills approach.
