The beat goes on
Live airport music is nothing new, but it’s a safe assertion that no airport comes close to Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS) in the quantity of live music served up to the traveling public.
The soon-to-open Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort is doing its part to keep the music alive at Austin-Bergstrom International by supporting shows at the airport. The live music stage is located at the center of the concourse, close to the Highland Lakes Bar. That’s across from Gates 9 and 10. Locals love to pop open a long-neck (a beer bottle to non-Texans), sit back and chill a while before boarding their flights.
You’ve got to be a ticketed passenger to get the full flavor of the live presentations. That’s because the music stage is located past security, on the sterile or “airside” part of the airport.
Visit the airport’s Web site to see a schedule of rock, country, jazz, blues, folk, and Tejano artists.
The 492-room Hyatt Regency Lost Pines styles itself as a musically-themed resort. Located 13 miles from Austin-Bergstrom International, the hotel is expected to open for business on June 1. The Hyatt will sport its own live music, and has gone so far as to name some of its suites for Texas's diverse musical genres. The hotel’s fitness facility, Spa Django, is named after Django Reinhardt, the legendary gypsy/jazz guitarist of the 1930s who influenced a number of musicians in Texas.
After drinking in the music, travelers who book a room at the Hyatt might want to tackle the property’s magnificent new course at Wolfdancer Golf Club. The layout was designed by Arthur Hills, the renowned golf course architect.
