Travel free to Los Angeles International

Looking for a really cheap seat to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from the LA Basin? How about for free?

For the first two weeks of the new service, that’s the price of a ticket between Union Station in downtown LA and the terminals at Los Angeles International. The free ride runs from March 15 through March 31. The one proviso is that you’ve got to begin your trip by using public transportation to Union Station, at which point you connect to the new FlyAway express bus service.

After the two-week introductory period (or should you choose to drive to Union Station), the 20-minite ride from downtown to LAX will cost $3 for adults, and $2 for children ages two to 12. Kids under two ride for free.

Before you blink at that 20-minute ride time, FlyAway busses will use the LA freeway system’s dedicated carpool lanes.

At Union Station, FlyAway will operate from Berth 9 at the Patsaouras/Gateway Transit Plaza. That’s located on the east side of the trains at the station, and is easily accessed via Vignes Street.

Buses will run in both directions every 30 minutes from 5am to 1am, and every hour from 1am to 5am. Buses depart both Union Station and the airport on the hour and half-hour.

FlyAways will drop off at LAX on the Upper/Departures Level in front of each terminal. They’ll pick up passengers on the Lower/Arrivals Level in front of each terminal. Look for the signs marked “FlyAway, Buses, and Long-Distance Vans”.

Don’t expect to pay for the ride with a credit card. FlyAway accepts only cash.
