US Airways reaches out to Portland
US Airways has announced plans to launch a new service between its hub in Philadelphia and Portland in Oregon.
From its hub in Pennsylvania the airline operates flights to 16 European destinations and a further 19 in Latin America and the Caribbean.
"Customers in Portland will enjoy service into our Philadelphia hub, which provides extensive East Coast and international connectivity," said Scott Kirby, US Airways' executive vice president of sales and marketing.
"Conversely, our longtime and loyal Philadelphia passengers will have nonstop access to another destination on the West Coast."
US Airways recently merged with America West as part of the consolidation trend running through the North American aviation sector. Kirby said that the "revenue and scheduling synergies" as a result of the merger had made it easier to launch new routes.
The airline will start flying to Portland from June 1.
