LA airports update

Lots of travelers have to stay connected while on the go these days - even when they’re on vacation - and the process should prove easier once T-Mobile USA sets up wireless Internet access at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Ontario International (ONT) airports.

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has approved a three-year deal with T-Mobile that includes two one-year options. The company has committed to put in place enough points to provide broadband wireless internet access (Wi-Fi) to all public areas in the airports’ terminals.

The cost will be $9.99 for 24 hours, but existing T-Mobile customers will be charged according to their current wireless plan.

T-Mobile says it is committed to invest $700,000 in fixtures and equipment to make Wi-Fi work at Los Angeles and Ontario as well as Van Nuys Airport, a local airport in the LA Basin which primarily handles private business aircraft.

The company comes into the Los Angeles airport market with significant experience. It operates some 6,300 Wi-Fi hotspots or access points in the United States alone as well as approximately 20,000 locations worldwide.

The Los Angeles Basin is so big that it takes five airports to move all the people: Los Angeles, Ontario, Burbank (BUR), Long Beach (LGB), and Orange County (SNA).

If you’re flying out of Orange County, there are several parking options available. Parking in one of the four terminal parking garages at the airport costs $17 per day, off-site parking is cheaper at $12 per day, and the valet service runs at $23 per day.
