US Airways revs up with GP flights

US Airways is boosting the number of flights it offers to Montreal when the Grand Prix hits the city in June.

More flights and extra seating will be added from US Airways' Philadelphia hub between Thursday, June 22, and Monday, June 26.

Montreal hosts the Grand Prix on Sunday, June 25, and the airline is planning to increase capacity by 18 per cent - up to 944 extra seats - in order to meet the demand for travel.

There will be an additional daily flight on Thursday, June 22, Friday, June 23, and Monday, June 26. The airline will use a 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet 200 (CRJ200).

US Airways will also add seats by upgauging aircraft from a CRJ200 to a 126-seat Boeing 737 between June 22 and June 26.

Andrew Nocella, a senior vice-president at the airline, said: "With Montreal hosting one of the world's premier Formula One races, the additional seats we're offering will accommodate the many race fans around the world who want to enjoy this accelerating event in person."

The extra passengers will be carried by US Airways Express carriers such as Air Midwest, Air Wisconsin, Chautauqua, Colgan, Mesa, Piedmont, PSA, Republic, and Trans States as well as America West or United Airlines.

On the Boeing 757-200 aircrafts, I see AWA has 14 First-Class seats and US Airways has eight First-Class seats. A while back, US Airways had 24 First-Class seats. I know the airline is still trying to integrate all aircraft into one name company US Airways. I would very much like to see the company bring back 24 First-Class seats on the Boeing 757-200 as soon as possible, with the very busy summer travel ahead. I know it costs money to do it. Please bring back those First-Class seats without worrying about the cost!
