Air Canada doesn't want to Tango
According to reports from Travelmole.com, Air Canada has caused widespread anger among travel agency professionals by removing its Tango fares, the cheapest available, from all GDS systems used by travel agents.
The move has been derided by more than 3,600 Canadian agents and 50 large corporations, who have all joined together in signing a letter of objection against Air Canada, the report suggests.
"Clearly, Air Canada is intent on taking away the customer's right to the lowest available fare and the best service, which is found when booking with a travel professional," Christiane Theberge, Vice President of Public Affairs at the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA), told Travelmole.com.
"A strange dance, since retail travel agencies sell over 70 per cent of Air Canada tickets," Theberge added.
Professional estimates suggest that the controversial move will not only inconvenience Air Canada passengers but could cost the airline as much as $245 million in annual sales.
