Spirit offers hurricane help
Spirit Airlines is offering passengers insurance in case their flight looks likely to be disrupted during this year's hurricane season.
The low-cost airline's 2006 Hurricane Buster Policy pledges to allow travelers to change bookings free of charge if airports experience a hurricane watch. The offer is open until November 15.
Barry Biffle, Chief Marketing Officer, said the policy was designed to provide passengers with "peace of mind and protection against stormy travel disruptions" during the busy summer season.
The airline has also unveiled its summer Spirit-Sale Scale, where deals are individually named and grouped into five categories based on the size of the reduction.
Although specific routes are as yet unconfirmed, the fifth category of sales will start from $9 each way, excluding charges and taxes. At the other end of the scale, fares in the Category One sale will range from $101 to $299. When announced, sales will be subject to availability and are applicable to round-trips only.
"We're confident in our forecast for an active travel season through the fall and given that customers are always looking for a special, we're ready from A to W with the named sales of the season," said Biffle.
Based in Fort Lauderdale, Spirit flies to 30 cities in the US, as well as taking vacationers to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
