New transport links for T F Green Airport
T F Green Airport in Warwick, Rhode Island, is due to undergo a $225.5 million expansion, with new transport links to tackle automobile congestion.
The Warwick Intermodal Facility will become a transport hub for local and intercity connections, housing a train station, bus terminals and an enclosed 3,200-space car park for rental firms and rail passengers.
Airborne commuters will also have access to 1,000 parking spaces, connected to the airport via a 1,250-foot elevated walkway.
Construction will begin next year and the facility is due for completion by October 2009.
Governor Donald Carcieri described the construction as "a milestone we'll look back on as a state" and the "culmination of lots of work on lots of people's parts" while announcing the plans earlier this week.
Acting Secretary at the Federal Transportation Department, Maria Cino, said that cities nationwide should take heed of its initiatives to reduce congestion and simplify air connections.
