Orangemen's city gets the blues
The first and only direct service between Syracuse and the state of Florida flew for the first time late last week as JetBlue launched its new route.
Flying between Syracuse Hancock International and Orlando International, the new daily nonstop flight has fares available from $99 each way, up to around $299 for the most expensive options, excluding taxes.
JetBlue also operates a cross-state direct flight between Syracuse and New York City's John F. Kennedy International. Currently flying three times a day, the service will be increased to four a day in November, as demand grows for flights from the upstate New York hub.
"This is just what the doctor ordered," said Senator Charles E. Schumer.
"Central New York is one of JetBlue's strongest markets and with a new flight to JFK and a new route to Orlando it's only going to get better."
The new Syracuse to Orlando flights will be on an Airbus A320 aircraft, while the new route to New York-JFK will use the smaller regional jet, the Embraer 190.
