Yearning for Yellowknife? – Air Canada will get you there
Air Canada has a new northernmost spot on its route map – Yellowknife (YZF). Air Canada Jazz now lofts daily nonstop service to the remote town from both Edmonton (YEA) and Calgary (YYC). The conveyance is a 50-passenger Canadair Regional Jet.
By further opening up Yellowknife, Air Canada connects the town to the rest of its far-flung route network. Together, Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz lay claim to operating more flights within Canada, and to and from the United States, than any other carrier.
Within Canada this summer they will field more than 960 nonstops per day on 131 routes to and from 67 Canadian airports. Transborder, the options are legion: 390 nonstops per day on 89 routes to and from 51 U.S. and seven Canadian destinations.
Looking to book Yellowknife? Here’s the schedule: daily nonstops depart Edmonton at 8:15pm, and arrive YZF at 10:05pm. The return leg leaves Yellowknife at 3pm and arrives YEA at 4:40pm.
To and from Calgary, an Air Canada Jazz CRJ pushes back from the gate at 12:15pm and gets to Yellowknife at 2:25pm. The return flight is a morning affair, leaving YZF at 8:20am and arriving Calgary at 10:25 in the morning.

Nice that Air Canada feels the need to come into Yellowknife with discounted prices in an effort to take business from the two local Northern airlines (Canadian North and First Air), which are both AC partner airlines.
Before people feel the need to jump at the lower fares, they should consider the benefits of using the local airlines who contribute on a grand scale to our northern communities. They provide sponsorship of almost every event, to service groups, sports teams and the general public allowing us to enjoy events at little to no cost because event costs are kept down.
What will Jazz be offering to our community? Are they here to get what ever money they can and then run? One wonders if they will be like West Jet who ran summer flights a few years back and then dropped the route.
Support northern airlines!
