Charlotte/Douglas praised for security actions
Many major airports across the country have had to cope with stepped-up security measures in response to last week's foiled terrorist plot, and, equally, several smaller airports have also had to ramp up their security efforts.
Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, which has direct flights to Mexico, Germany, and England, is a smaller airport than some of the main hubs that have been worst affected, but has come in for special praise from local Representative Robin Hayes.
An important airport for the southeastern region of the United States, Charlotte/Douglas in North Carolina was commended by Hayes as he toured the facilities. "The level of cooperation here has been fantastic," Hayes said after completing a tour alongside fellow Republican Representative John Mica from Florida.
Hayes and Mica both noted the speedy and successful adjustments made at Charlotte/Douglas to the security guidelines. Hayes' Democratic opponent Larry Kissell said he was equally pleased with the efforts made in the area.
"I'm glad to see Congressman Hayes joins me in being concerned with our safety and security at airports in the U.S.," he told the Charlotte Observer. "What took place in London proves my point that we have to stop terrorists everywhere."
