Continental’s Roatan run: service starts December
Looking for something off the beaten path, an ecological enclave just a nonstop flight away? Consider a rendezvous in Roatan, Honduras (RTB). Continental Airlines will fly you there nonstop from Newark (EWR) from December 16.
All Continental needs to loft the flights is government approval, and that should prove no problem.
Framed by tranquil bays and mountain forests, Roatan is a magnet for ecotourism and a subtly romantic retreat as well. It is home to nearly 100 dive sites, and some of the most pristine, yet readily accessible, waters on the planet.
A long-range Boeing 737-700 will make the trip each Saturday from Newark. It pushes back from the gate at Newark at 9:50am and touches down at Roatan at 1:35pm. The return circuit departs Roatan at 2:25pm, and arrives at Newark’s Liberty International Airport at 7:45 in ample time to get home, rest Sunday, and be ready to deal with the workaday world Monday.
Continental is no stranger to Roatan. The world’s fifth-largest airline already offers year-round service to the resort area from its hub at Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

Finally! Thanks to Continental for offering a direct flight from Newark to Roatan. I often go there to visit family as well as to tend to a few business ventures. However, in the past, it has been a hassle trying to get to this unspoiled tropical paradise, having to connect from one flight to another through multiple cities. This will now be a thing of the past.
Continental, this direct flight will make my personal and business dealings in Roatan all the more easier. Hats off to you.
