New short-hop flights planned for northeast
According to a report in the Elmira Star-Gazette, Pan Am Clipper is to announce new commuter flights to Boston, New York City, and Baltimore/Washington, D.C.
Elmira/Corning Regional Airport, a small commuter hub in upstate New York, will receive the airline's new service in the next few months.
Twice-daily flights will go to Boston via the New Bedford Regional Airport, to New York City via Trenton-Mercer Airport, and will fly directly into Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
Pan Am Clipper will use small twin-engine turboprop planes, capable of carrying up to 19 passengers at a time, and urban connections to Boston and New York will be possible through the extensive train networks between the two cities and the New Bedford and Trenton hubs.
The airline also noted that traveling to New York using this method would be quicker than flying direct to a larger, closer airport, such as Newark Liberty or JFK.
The new flights to the cities are expected to be followed by another announcement from Chemung County officials soon.
It is hoped a new three-a-week service between the local airport and Orlando and Tampa in Florida will be instituted before the end of this year, also operated by Pan Am Clipper.
