Northwest flight attendants could sew CHAOS
Things are happening very fast at Northwest Airlines. After flight attendants rejected a tentative contract, the airline said it was imposing new contract terms covering those flight attendants. The union then said that the move could trigger a plan dubbed CHAOS: disrupting flights throughout the carrier’s system via a series of random, unannounced walkouts.
Northwest - currently in the midst of Chapter 11 bankruptcy - says such walkouts would be illegal, and that they would go to court to stop them.
The newly imposed contract calls for flight attendants to take a significant pay cut. Union officials say other concessions are also part of the package.
As this story is posted, it remains to be seen if Northwest flight attendants will actually strike and if so when and where. Travelers would be well advised to check with Northwest before going to the airport.
