Phoenix reworks security lanes – increases convenience

This couldn’t have come at a better time. Just before the July 4 holiday, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) opened a new six-lane checkpoint on the west side of the lobby in Terminal 2. The move eased hassles for fliers in the wake of recent, more stringent screening changes - changes prompted by an aborted plot to blow up ten airliners bound from the United Kingdom to the United States.

Moving the security lines to the west side of Terminal 2 creates more room in the center of the lobby for meeters and greeters, folks who come to PHX to welcome family and friends. Those lines are far more efficiently arrayed now too. They no longer extend into the ticketing and baggage-claim areas.

The new security checkpoint is part of an overall renovation of Terminal 2, Sky Harbor’s oldest. Over the course of the next year, look for new shops and restaurants to open in the facility.
