Air Canada plans new reservation system

The national airline from north of the border has announced plans to develop an improved reservation management system.

Air Canada’s innovative new upgrade will be rolled out across its entire network from late next year and will allow airline check-in and bookings staff to provide customers with more detailed information on reservations and seat availability.

The airline also said that the next generation system will make check-in easier and faster. The move will also increase Air Canada's compatibility with its Star Alliance partners, which include United Airlines and US Airways.

"Today's announcement is an important step towards providing our employees with new tools that deliver Air Canada's simplified, value-added products and services more efficiently for our customers," said Sean Menke, Executive Vice President at Air Canada.

ITA Software, the company employed by Air Canada to assist in the development process, noted that the new software would become part and parcel of the future of airline organizations.

Jeremy Wertheimer, the President and CEO of ITA Software, said the system is an important step that would "mark an end to airlines' reliance on legacy systems and processes" and would be vital as a replacement for the current "archaic technologies".
