American, Delta big winners at WTAs
Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have scooped the main prizes for the North American section at this year's World Travel Awards (WTAs).
In recognition of its leading First Class service, which was recently upgraded with extra legroom, new in-flight menus, and real silverware, American was given the award for this category, as well as winning the overall North America's Leading Airline award.
Delta picked up North America's Leading Business Class Airline and also won Leading Budget/No Frills Airline, demonstrating that the new carrier is improving in a variety of areas of service even since it entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy to slim down its operations.
North America's Leading Airport is New York's John F Kennedy International, according to the WTAs.
Despite being derided by many critics as a sprawling hub which is difficult to navigate, the airfield is one of the world's busiest and is an important center for travelers entering the United States from all across the world.
The 2006 WTAs added 24 new categories to the North American section this year bringing the total to 100, including state-specific awards for resorts, including spa and golf resorts, and business and boutique hotels.
