Delta pledges breast cancer support with pink livery

Delta's pink planeWith Breast Cancer Awareness Month coming up in October, Delta Air Lines has unveiled a brand new livery for one of its Boeing 757s in bright pink.

Traditionally the color associated with the cause, the Delta Pink Plane deviates from the carrier's traditional color scheme of red, white, and blue in order to show the company's support for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

As distinctive as it is poignant, Delta's plane livery will contain the BCRF pink ribbon logo along with the regular Delta badge near the plane's cockpit.

To supplement the awareness drive, the carrier will also be offering pink lemonade for sale on all domestic flights, along with many of its international routes as well, with all proceeds being donated to the BCRF.

"Delta's more than 50,000 employees are proud to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, an organization that has worked tirelessly for more than a decade funding research on prevention and the search for a cure," said Joanne Smith, Delta Vice-President of Marketing.

"This disease affects many of our customers and employees worldwide and we remain deeply committed to helping raise both awareness and funding for the ever-important fight against breast cancer, which will, one day, lead to a cure."

This is not the first time the company has lent its support to the cause. In 2005, Delta's former low-fare carrier Song introduced a similar pink-liveried aircraft to fly domestically.

I would just like to say thank you to all who support breast cancer in any way. I am currently fighting this disease. Anyone out there reading this should make sure you get your mammogram on a regular basis. It saves lives. God bless you all.

Thank you for supporting this cause. My sister lost her battle in 2003. I am flying on Delta to California on October 11, 2006 to take part in the Inland Empire Race for the Cure on October 15, 2006.

I hope my flight is "pink".

Thanks again, Delta.

Thank you, Delta, from a former "stew" (#21444) who adored her job, some thirty odd years ago. It remains a highlight of my life. I am a 17-year survivor of this disease which took my mother's and grandmother's lives, and affected my aunt, also. Now, I am left with two children, both girls, so I work with passion for the "cure" to come. And, it will, with money and commitment to research. This is such a marvelous, supportive response from a marvelous airline! Thank you from all us survivors.

It will be greatly appreciated if Delta would show support by offering flight assistance for those with breast cancer who must travel for medical care - particularly in Cincinnati - where airfares are consistently the highest in the nation.
