New routes, new deals from Salt Lake City

Delta Air Lines is forging a couple of brand-new transborder routes out of Salt Lake City this winter, one north, the other south. Both come with introductory discount airfares: $159 between Salt Lake City and Winnipeg (YWG), and $149 from Salt Lake City to Guadalajara (GDL).

The Guadalajara deal entails a round-trip purchase. The Winnipeg offer does not. You'll have to make the Guadalajara purchase no later than October 9 to land the deal; October 17 for the Winnipeg discount airfare. Neither taxes nor fees are included in either offer.

Delta is due to begin Guadalajara service from Salt Lake City on December 2, 2006. Salt Lake City to Winnipeg is set to take wing on January 8, 2007. Guadalajara will be a thrice-weekly affair; Winnipeg will be daily.

Delta has been launching lots of flights from its western hub of late. Since the fall of 2005 the nation's third-largest carrier, which is making solid progress in emerging from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, has announced nonstop flights to some 30 destinations from Salt Lake City, rendering the place the carrier's fastest-growing domestic hub in terms of destinations served.
