Reading in Raleigh – Borders' new bookstore

Face it, one of the few places on earth (ah, above it?) you can settle back for a good read without being bothered is on an airplane. Books are a great way not just to relax, but to fend off an overly talkative seatmate. Works every time. That’s why airport bookstores flourish.

Raleigh/Durham International (RDU) reflects the reality. Borders is opening a new bookstore at the North Carolina aerodrome in October. The 1,237-square-foot affair is setting up shop in Terminal A at RDU.

The new store features bestsellers for leisure and business travelers, some 8,000 titles in all. There will also be audio books, a limited selection of magazine titles, and both DVDs and CDs.

The Raleigh/Durham store marks Borders first airport foray in North Carolina. The company already operates stores - among other places - at Baltimore/Washington International (BWI), Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX), Orlando International (MCO), Seattle/Tacoma International (SEA), Newark Liberty International (EWR), Bush Houston Intercontinental (IAH), Las Vegas McCarran International (LAS), Miami International, and Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International (CVG).
