Travel light – check your bags at Hyatt

Today’s security-intensive environment places a premium on traveling as light as possible. To that end, this news from Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. Beginning this month guests at select Hyatts can check luggage, and get boarding passes, before even leaving the hotel. The cost is $10, about the price of a continental breakfast, to put things into perspective.

Hyatts in Boston, Dallas, Denver, Miami, Orlando, San Diego, Seattle and Tampa offer the service. Throughout the rest of 2006, and into 2007, other of the hotelier’s properties will roll it out.

The off-airport check-in is possible because of a partnership between Hyatt and Baggage Airline Guest Services (B.A.G.S.). To ensure security, the set-up is supervised by the Transportation Security Administration.

Depending on the location of your Hyatt, you can check-in as little as two hours prior to departure, or as long as 24 hours. Once you’ve checked-in remotely, go to the security lane at the airport. On landing, pick up your luggage at baggage claim just as you’d normally do.

With more travelers checking bags these days instead of carrying them on to comply with TSA regulations regarding the transportation of liquids and gels, this remote check-in arrangement couldn’t have come at a better time. Bottom line: you don’t have to wait in another line at the airport.
