America West Express announces new EAS details

Two new Essential Air Services (EAS) to cities in California are to be operated by America West Express out of Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, the airline has announced.

Flights to Visalia and Merced will begin on November 19. There will be at least one daily flight from the Californian locations headed to the Nevada city and further schedule additions will be made for weekend travel.

From Visalia, flights will depart at 6.08am (Sunday only), 11.03am (daily), 3.33pm (Tuesday and Saturday), and 5.58pm (Saturday only). Return flights will depart Las Vegas at 9.20am (Sunday only), 1.50pm (Tuesday and Saturday), 4.15pm, and 8.45pm (both Saturday only). Flight duration is around one hour, 30 minutes in both directions, slightly less for outbound flights heading to Nevada.

Between Merced and Las Vegas, flights will depart at 7am (Sunday only), 11.55am (daily), 4.25pm (Tuesday and Saturday), and 6.50pm (Saturday only). Flights heading to Merced will leave the Nevada city on the same days and at the same times as the Visalia services quoted above but will take close to two hours.

Certain services are shared by the two Californian destinations and some flights will include a landing in both Merced and Visalia when connecting the two destinations to the Las Vegas hub.

Tickets can be purchased through the America West/US Airways Web site or as a walk-up fare. Prices start from $198 round-trip, excluding taxes and charges.
