American puts Central America on sale

Got friends or relatives in Central America? Want to soak up the sun in that part of the world, or perhaps do a bit of ecotourism this winter? American Airlines makes it easy with round-trip discount airfares that extend to the $361 range.

All the rates we’re about to quote are round-trip, and they’ve got to be purchased at www.aa.com no later than 11:59pm (Central Standard Time) on October 31. Do that and you can book passage all the way through May 23, 2007. There are a couple of significant blackout dates, however: Christmas and New Years. You can’t travel on these discount airfares December 14 through 26; or January 1 through 16, 2007.

More restrictions: a Saturday night-stay is mandatory, and these tickets are neither refundable nor transferable. Taxes and fees are not included. They’re extra.

Still, these discount airfares are significant. Here’s a sampling. All the fares quoted are for round-trip passage out of Miami (MIA):

- Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA) $398
- Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) $408
- Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) $499
- Panama City, Panama (PTY) $409
- San Jose Costa Rica (SJO) $361
- San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP) $369
- San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) $384
- Tegucigalpa, Honduras (TGU) $369

American Airlines’ Latin American hub at Miami International Airport is the most formidable launchpad to Central and South America in existence. AA offers connections to MIA from across its extensive route system.
