New Japan flight for SoCal
Residents of Southern California now need only hop across the border for a direct flight to Tokyo after Aeromexico announced a new service from Tijuana.
Alejandro Moreno Medina, Baja California State Tourism Secretary, announced the new flight, which will originate in Mexico City before stopping at Tijuana International Airport and going on direct to Japan from there, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The first flight will depart on November 16 and two flights per week are planned to Tokyo's Narita International Airport.
Departures from Mexico City will leave at midnight on Tuesdays and Fridays, the through flight taking off from Tijuana at 2am. The Boeing 777 flight will touch down at Narita International at 5.30am and return flights are scheduled for Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Local officials said the service plugs a hole in the market as few international flights currently run from the region. The last major carrier to leave Southern California, British Airways, operated a direct San Diego to London flight until 2004.
Fares are expected to start from around $800 each-way for Coach and $1,500 one way in Business Class.
