Parking rates set to rise at Reagan Washington National
It’s going to cost you more to park at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Beginning in mid-November, just in time for the Thanksgiving crush, rates are going to rise (and in one case rocket) at the close-in pocketport. Here’s what you can expect:
- Economy parking is going up by $1 per day. What used to cost $9 per 24 hours will soon be $10.
- Rates in the Daily Parking section are rising even more. A $15 per day maximum tab becomes $17.
- Rates in the Hourly Parking section are set to really soar. While the current rate is $28 max, the new fee will be $36 per day.
DCA points out that the computed hourly rate won’t change, just the maximum daily charge. Reagan National also wants you to know that the first 20 minutes of parking is free. That means you can drop off or pick up passengers without having to pay - if you do it quickly.
The parking alternatives per se at DCA are non-existent. Unlike most other airports, there is no off-airport commercial parking near Reagan Washington National. That’s because the price of land is so pricey in northern Virginia, the location of the airport.
The best way to get to DCA: Metrorail. It’s fast, cheap, and sublimely convenient. The Metro station is attached to the airport terminal complex by an environmentally controlled pedestrian bridge, a passageway fitted with moving sidewalks.
