Upgrade completed at Ashtabula County

The regional airport in Ashtabula County, Ohio, has completed its three-year expansion project.

Developments included three new rental hangars and airport paving, running to a cost of around $1.1 million.

The project was funded through a 30-year loan from the federal government along with grants from the federal and state governments and a local tax. Building work was completed over the weekend.

"This is kind of a landmark day for us," said David Price, President of the Ashtabula County Airport Authority Board, noting that now "northeast Ohio [has] the nicest hangars".

Price commended everybody that worked on the project to ensure such a smooth ride and said to complete all the funding and the work within three years was a real achievement.

A ticker-tape and ribbon celebration event was held to mark the new hangars' opening and the extra facilities will mean Ashtabula can accommodate greater airplane traffic and provide more useful services to the local population.
