AAA predicts rebound in Texas travel this Thanksgiving
Texans usually travel a lot, especially over Thanksgiving. AAA Texas, the American Automobile Association’s Lone Star State representative, predicts a two percent increase in travel this Thanksgiving compared to last year’s hurricane-ravaged holiday.
Here’s AAA Texas’ breakdown:
- Almost 85 percent will drive. That’s 2.86 million folks;
- 343,000 will fly;
- 168,000 will travel by other means.
AAA says some 38.3 million Americans are expected to take trips of 50 miles or longer this Thanksgiving holiday. That’s a 2.7 percent increase compared to last year.
“In 2005, many people in this area didn’t take Thanksgiving trips because they or their families were still recovering from the effects of the hurricanes,” says AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. “This year, Thanksgiving travel in Texas and nationwide is expected to bounce back.”
According to a survey of AAA Travel agents, the top destinations for Texans this year are Orlando, Colorado, Mexico, cruises departing from Galveston, and Las Vegas.
