American proves it Cares
In association with AmSafe Aviation, American Airlines is planning to introduce a special lightweight child-safety system similar to a car booster seat for purchase in its travel stores in time for the holidays.
The Child Aviation Restraint System (Cares) is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and will be available to all AA passengers traveling with children on all of the airline's domestic U.S. flights.
Weighing less than one pound, instead of the average 15-pound weight of a typical car seat, the new safety device straps a child in by the shoulders and across the lap and is approved for use specifically on aircraft seating.
It was developed as a lighter-weight alternative to the bulky equipment that parents traveling with their children are typically required to carry with them, particularly when bringing a child of two years old or above onboard, who needs a separate airline ticket and seat.
The Cares product retails for $74.95 and will come with a special DVD demonstration video and instructions for use when purchased through AA stores.
"American Airlines has been a long-time supporter of the Cares product throughout the development, research, and approval process," said Lori Pratt-Smith, North American Sales Manager for AmSafe Aviation.
"Given this support and our focus on enhancing the travel experience, it's only appropriate for American to be the first airline to sell Cares."
